Node-H develops protocol stack software for 3G Femtocells. The initial product is the 3GPP Iu-h Femtocell architecture. This software, combined with the baseband chipset and firmware, constitutes the core of the Femtocell. Device vendors can add their own proprietary software to extend the functionality of the Femtocell. Femtocell devices can be standalone or integrated with broadband modems as Residential gateways. Node-H works with semiconductor partners to be able to offer completely integrated system solutions, not just individual software modules.

The protocol stack software covers MAC/RLC, RRC, PDCP, RANAP, HNBAP, RTP, GTP-U, RUA, Iu-UP and Iu-h. The initial target platforms are all Linux-based, but the software is fully portable, independent of the platform and could equally run on a rich embedded RTOS. The software is tested in Windows using multiple toolchains, on various flavors of x86 Linux, on ARM Linux, MIPS Linux and non-Linux Unix environments for portability testing.

The lower interface of the software is well defined based on the 3GPP NBAP and Frame Protocol standards. Node-H can provide the Node-H Layer 1 Interface to semiconductor vendors who wish to develop chipsets which will easily integrate with the Node-H protocol software.

To run the Node-H software on a particular chipset, Node-H develops a driver layer which interfaces to the chipset. Node-H supports all major Femtocell chipset platforms.

The performance limitation on the software is simply the underlying hardware. Because the techniques used in the development of the software are the same ones which achieved optimal performance in the handset space, Node-H software is able to get the best performance out of the silicon.

The Node-H product roadmap includes the IMS 3GPP Femtocell architecture and integration with LTE.
