Node-H 3GPP Iu-h Femtocell Software is Standards Compliant

Node-H, a supplier of turnkey software for femtocells, has adapted its software to work with a leading infrastructure vendor’s gateway and provisioning solution, to allow for a seamless deployment into the core network, based upon 3GPP Iu-h standards. This enables ODMs and OEMs rapid entry into the fast-growing femtocell access point market, and carriers to select a high-quality fully integrated solution.

(PRWEB) October 13, 2010 – Node-H has worked closely with Nokia Siemens Networks on interoperability testing of the Node-H femtocell software solution with the Nokia Siemens Networks femtocell gateway and management system.

Typically the effort to validate femtocell solutions against a femtocell gateway, the femtocell management system, against different core networks and a multiplicity of handsets is time consuming and expensive. Node-H software is structured so that the benefit of this testing accrues to all of its customers and partners. This reduces costs and risk while increasing the quality of the resulting femtocell access points or integrated access devices.

The tested software is running on a standard Percello PRC 6100 platform single-chip femtocell solution which supports 8 simultaneous calls and data rates up to 21Mbps, with 14.4 Mbps supported today, resulting in the lowest cost achievable in the industry.

The beneficiaries of the program are the ODMs and OEMs who license the solution. They will achieve accelerated time-to-market at reduced cost. By establishing a foothold in a rapidly expanding market they will be able to grow their business with the market growth rate which is expected to exceed 100% CAGR for many years to come.

Carriers will also benefit through the higher quality of the devices and the flexibility of being able to choose between marketing branded or unbranded products.

“The route to market in femtocells is complex. It’s difficult for the players at the beginning or end of the chain. This initiative simplifies things for the device manufacturer and the carrier”, says Mike Cronin, CEO of Node-H. “By bringing femtocell platform, software and the gateway provider together, the femtocell manufacturer can build a device with a clear route to market, and the carrier will have a clearer picture of cost, timescales and quality.”

Demonstrations of Node-H femtocell features can be viewed at the Node-H website http://www.node-h.com/showcase.html.

A femtocell is a tiny cellular access point, suitable for the home or office. It connects to the operator’s network through a broadband connection. The operator can offer improved coverage and capacity indoors as well as offloading capacity from the expensive macro network. Consumers will benefit from excellent mobile coverage indoors, additional services and bandwidth as though they had the whole network to themselves.

Femtocell manufacturers are under pressure from operators to speed up the roll-out of low-cost femtocells. Silicon and pre-integrated software allows them to accelerate their time-to-market. Specialized software companies like Node-H allow new entrants to enter the femtocell space more easily.
