Node-H Residential LTE Femtocell Software Supports VoLTE

Node-H GmbH, the leading supplier of UMTS small cells software technology, has announced the availability of its residential LTE femtocell software solution running on OEM platforms based upon Broadcom’s BCM61730 SoC. The solution includes HD Voice VoLTE, the next generation voice technology.

Barcelona (PRWEB) February 25, 2014 – Node-H GmbH, the leading supplier of UMTS small cells software technology, has announced the availability of its residential LTE femtocell software solution running on OEM platforms based on the Broadcom® high-performance BCM6173x 3G/LTE dual mode residential small cell system-on-a-chip (SoC). The solution includes HD Voice over LTE (VoLTE), the next generation voice technology.

The Node-H LTE software supports eight users, and Cat 4 devices with up to 150Mbps downlink and 50 Mbps uplink in a 20 MHz LTE channel. Femtocells can hand calls over to other femtocells, as well as to the existing LTE, UMTS or GSM networks. Voice calls are supported using VoLTE, but for networks which do not yet support IMS, fast Circuit Switched Fallback allows voice calls to be carried over existing circuit switched infrastructure.

The solution leverages existing Node-H small cells technology, which is already in large scale deployment, to allow for rapid entry to trial and market deployment. Users will benefit from a seamless integration with the LTE macro network and data rates and operators can control the user experience using the closed, open or hybrid mode features of Closed Subscriber Group.

“LTE data traffic is so high that operators recognize it can’t be handled by the macro network alone,” said Mike Cronin, CEO of Node-H. “We will see some very large deployments over the next two years, and the robustness of the software will be a critical factor for operators.”

The rapid uptake of LTE is evidenced by the number of LTE devices being deployed. This is the fastest ever deployment of a new generation of communications technology. Operators are rolling out LTE coverage using a wide-range of cellular infrastructure technologies, comprising traditional macro-cells, outdoor small cells, enterprise small cells and residential femtocells.

"Broadcom's highly integrated dual-mode SoCs help service providers deliver a better mobile experience and faster data rates while improving 3G and 4G/LTE network performance,” said Greg Fischer, Broadcom Vice President and General Manager, Broadband Carrier Access. “Combined with Node-H software, Broadcom’s small cell solutions allow operators to bring innovative products to market more quickly."

Node-H technology is available to be licensed by operators, OEMs and ODMs. LTE residential femtocells which incorporate the Node-H technology are available today. These products can be integrated with other technologies such as Wifi or UMTS femtocells.
