Node-H Shows 24 Simultaneous Calls on a Femtocell

Node-H has shown its Femtocell Software running 24 simultaneous calls on Percello's new PRC 6600 chipset. The software also supports the highest HSPA uplink and downlink data rates yet shown.

(PRWEB)  June 8, 2010 – Node-H 3GPP femtocell software is specifically optimized for femtocells and has set performance records for the industry. Node-H has shown twenty four simultaneous calls and the fastest uplink and downlink HSPA speeds, at 5.76M and 14.4M. The twenty four call capability can be viewed at the Node-H website http://www.node-h.com/showcase.html.

There is some debate about what level of performance is required from femtocells. Many people believe that supporting eight simultaneous calls is sufficient for home use. The enterprise and metro-femto markets, such as offices, shops, public buildings or publics spaces are likely to opt for the higher number of calls supported by Super Femtocells. By showing twenty four calls, Node-H has set a new performance standard for Super Femtocells.

Outdoor femtocells can support a cell radius of up to 2 kilometers. Femtocells supporting twenty four simultaneous calls can extend mobile phone services to rural locations at a fraction of the cost of existing picocell solutions. For operators in rural areas, especially in China, India, Africa and South America, femtocells are a natural solution for network rollout with point-to-point microwave links being used for the backhaul.

"Operators understand that small cells will play a major role in future network topologies. By scaling from residential, through enterprise to public hot-spots the advantages offered by standards-compliant femtocells are compounding the benefits for operators", says Mike Cronin, CEO of Node-H.

The new PRC 6600 chipset from Percello features on-chip DDR memories which increase performance and enhance the security of the device. Recent reports of femtocell hacking relied on access to the external memory bus, which is no longer possible with the on-chip memory. This, along with the security specifications of the soon-to-be-released 3GPP Iu-h devices, addresses the security concerns of network operators.

Node-H femtocell software provides a full solution for the telecoms functionality of a femtocell, while at the same time affording flexibility for licensees to customize the software. Licensees can for example offer custom features to operators or incorporate femtocell functionality alongside broadband modems or routers.
