Node-H Femtocell Software Shows 2.88 Mbps HSUPA Performance

Node-H has shown the fastest High-Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA) data performance on a commercial femtocell chipset. Node-H protocol software is capable of delivering sustained data transfer at 2.88 Mbps.

(PRWEB) January 12, 2010 – Node-H GmbH has shown its femtocell protocol software delivering sustained High-Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA) data transfer at 2.88 Mbps. This performance is the fastest yet shown with a commercial femtocell chipset. The software was demonstrated on the Percello PRC 6000 Lima platform. A video presentation showing the capability can be viewed at http://node-h.femto.tv.

“HSUPA is already of benefit to users of mobile originated email and with the increased use of image sharing and video uploading it becomes a necessity”, says Mike Cronin, CEO of Node-H. “If you notice how long it takes to send something, then it’s probably too long.”

Node-H is the first independent software vendor to show its femtocell software delivering performance of 14Mbps high speed downlink and 2.88Mbps high speed uplink data services. With mobile broadband usage exploding in every market in which advanced devices are introduced operators are looking to find ways in which to offload the network. Leading operators worldwide like AT&T and Telefonica in the Americas, Vodafone and T-Mobile in Europe, Docomo and China Unicom in Asia, have worked to specify an inter-operable standard for femtocells. So keen are they to deploy it that they are already rolling out femtocells even in advance of standards-compliant devices becoming available.

Although improved voice coverage is the initial driver for Femtocell uptake, the longer term drivers are high-speed data offload and applications based around the implicit presence that a femtocell provides. Today some consumers are using Wifi as an alternative mechanism for achieving data offload. However, running two wireless systems in parallel drains the battery, and even lightly used Wifi may result in devices having to be recharged daily as in the early days of wireless handsets. Femtocells support high speed HSPA data services using carefully architected power saving techniques which are optimal for cellular technology. Devices like the iPhone or Android take advantage of these sophisticated power control strategies using their sensitive receivers and proximity to the femtocell to minimize signal power, guaranteeing high quality and resulting in minimum radiation as well as lengthening battery life. Devices using a femtocell can be expected to have longer standby and much longer talk or data transfer times.
